Music, Art and Synaesthesia
Lir String Quartet
Born in Dublin, Siobhán Doyle is a London-based violinist who has performed internationally with some of the world’s leading orchestras and conductors. Two of her greatest loves are music and colour, and her discovery of the condition of synaesthesia has led her to an enduring fascination with the phenomenon and determination to find a way to bring these linked worlds together.
Jane Mackay has painted since early childhood, but originally trained as a doctor. At the millennium she switched careers from medicine to full-time art using her synaesthetic visions of music as the basis of her artworks and gaining her Masters in Fine Art from University of Arts, London in 2016. She is best known for her paintings of classical music, over a thousand of which are now held in collections worldwide.
The Lir String Quartet is one of Ireland’s most exciting emerging chamber music groups. Founded in 2017 for Barry Douglas’s Clandeboye Festival, the quartet is comprised of four of Ireland’s foremost musicians who are united in a love for chamber music and sharing the rich body of string quartet repertoire with others.
